A bear spotted in Cold Spring

COLD SPRING- Authorities in Cold Spring have issued a bear warning in the wake of several sightings of the large bruins.

Cold Spring Police noted: “We see more bears in June as the yearling males seek out their own ranges.”

A bear was spotted several times in recent days near Philipstown Town Hall off Route 301 as well as in the vicinity of the Haldane School campus.

Police have consulted the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation while the school district has taken appropriate precaution on campus and at campus entries.

Officials say if you see a bear give it space and make plenty of noise so “bears learn that the space they’re in is not hospitable range.”

The DEC also encouraged residents to remove bird feeders from their yards and make sure all trash cans were tightly covered.
