EAST FISHKILL – A 74-year-old Stormville resident was killed on Thursday, following a collision with a garbage truck at the intersection of Route 52 and Leetown Road in East Fishkill.  The fatal accident occurred at 8:01 a.m., according to East Fishkill Police Chief Derrick Cuccia.

Chief Cuccia says the preliminary investigation indicates that a 2006 Mack garbage truck, owned by Tri-County Carting and operated by 55-year-old Frank Tompkins was traveling eastbound on State Route 52 when it struck a Subaru that was exiting Leetown Road onto Route 52.

The Subaru’s operator, Thomas Dunne, 74, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Two juvenile occupants were riding with Dunne and both were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Tompkins, a Brewster resident, was also transported to a local hospital for further examination, according to Chief Cuccia.

The investigation is ongoing.  If anyone may have witnessed the incident, please call the East Fishkill Police Department at 845-221-2111.
