DOVER – A 74-year-old Sherman, CT man is dead following a collision involving a tractor-trailer on Thursday on Route 22 in the Dover hamlet of Wingdale.  The accident occurred at the southern intersection of State Route 22 and Route 55 at approximately 3:45 p.m. Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Captain John Watterson said.

Captain Watterson said Joseph Hogan was driving his pickup truck on Route 55 and entered Route 22 directly in the path of an unloaded tractor-trailer.  Hogan’s truck was hit by the big rig.  Hogan was rushed to MidHudson Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.  The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Watterson said “No charges have been filed and the primary factor in the crash appears to be failure to yield the right of way on the part of vehicle one,” which was operated by Hogan.  The captain did indicate that the accident remains under investigation by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the New York State Police and the J.H. Ketcham Hose Company.
