MONTICELLO- The Borscht Belt Historical Marker Project dedicated its sixth marker outside the Alder Hotel at Resorts World Catskills in Monticello. Several hundred people attended the event where there was much reminiscing about what once sat on the famed site.
”We couldn’t have been happier to identify a spot on our campus here at Resorts World outside of the Alder to put one of these historical markers which pay tribute to an integral part of the Catskills,” said Megan Taylor, Senior Vice President of Public Relations at Resorts World. “When we first came to this community looking to build the casino we committed to the community that we would continue to honor the heritage that was here, and this is just one step towards that.”
The marker project is dedicated to preserving and commemorating the rich history of the Borscht Belt, which was an iconic era in American Jewish culture and entertainment.
“We are here tonight to honor the history of Kiamisha Lake with our sixth historic marker on a projected trail of 20,” said Marisa Sheinfeld, founder and project director. “Each marker is an emblem cementing and saluting a place of refuge and renaissance.”
