POUGHKEEPSIE – An Empress ambulance on its way to an emergency call on Friday was wrecked after a motorist proceeded into the path of the oncoming emergency vehicle, causing an accident.  The accident occurred on the eastbound arterial (44/55) in the City of Poughkeepsie around 11:00 a.m.

The ambulance, according to witnesses, had its lights and sirens on and the crew was on their way to an emergency call when the woman went across the intersection, striking the ambulance.  The ambulance was spun around and rolled over.

City of Poughkeepsie police and fire personnel responded to the wreck.  The driver of the car claims that she did not hear the sirens of the approaching ambulance.

The ambulance crew and the driver of the car were all treated for minor injuries.

A replacement ambulance responded to the original emergency call.  The investigation is ongoing.
