NEW WINDSOR – Underage kids who are seeking to participate in the history of using a fake ID to purchase alcoholic beverages are finding it nearly impossible in New Windsor.  Underage decoys sent into several stores by the New Windsor Police Department have been denied the chance to buy hangover-inducing beverages such as Pink Champale and Old English malt liquors during a recent sting operation.

On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, the New Windsor Police Department conducted an underage alcohol sales enforcement detail at 25 businesses throughout the town that are licensed to sell alcoholic beverages. As part of the detail, underage decoys were sent into the businesses and attempted to purchase alcohol. In all 25 attempts, the sale was denied, according to Police Chief Daniel Valeri.

In 2023, a similar detail last year had the same results.

Chief of Police Dan Valeri says his department routinely advises business owners of the seriousness of underage alcohol sales and warns them that enforcement details may be conducted.

“We are once again very pleased to see one hundred percent compliance. It is apparent that our education and enforcement efforts are making a positive impact.”  Chief Valeri noted that a similar operation was conducted in 2023 with the same results.

Town Supervisor Bedetti stated, “I am incredibly happy to see no underage sales in this enforcement detail. The New Windsor Police Department has worked extensively with local businesses to educate business owners about the dangers of underage alcohol sales and that it will not be tolerated in our town. Great work both by the New Windsor Police Department and the local businesses who declined to sell alcohol to minors.”
