MAHOPAC- Carmel Police received a call Thursday from a Mahopac man reporting someone had broken into his residence.

Lt. Michael Bodo said the homeowner reported observing a suspect on his ring camera attempting to gain entry to the home.

Police responded to the unoccupied residence and found a broken window, where the suspect had gained entry. After searching the dwelling, cops began canvassing the neighborhood while detectives processed the crime scene for evidence.

Lt. Bodo said while Detective Brian Smith and Police Officer Matthew

Valente were still inside the house, a suspect identified as Stalin D Caguana Uzho, 20, of Peekskill, entered the residence and became startled after being confronted by the two officers.

Bodo said an investigation determined that Caguana Uzho was the burglary suspect and had returned to the residence to retrieve property he had accidentally left behind. It was also determined that the defendant had two outstanding criminal contempt charges stemming from a pair of previous domestic incidents.

Caguana Uzho was charged with felony burglary and criminal mischief in addition to larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. He was arraigned in Carmel Town Court and remanded to the Putnam Correctional facility in lieu of $20,000 bail or $40,000 bond.

Bodo said there was more to the story since detectives determined that

Caguana Uzho had stolen a second victim’s vehicle prior to committing the burglary the previous day and violated an active order of protection for a third time. The victim’s vehicle was recovered and further charges are pending against the suspect.
