State Police Friday released a photograph of Karen Ramsey prior to her disappearance in 1980

PATTERSON- State Police have released new information in connection with the skeletal remains found during excavation work last month at the property of a new home under construction at the Patterson-Southeast town line.

The victim was identified as Karen Ramsey whose maiden name was Angelillo.

Putnam County law enforcement indicated that “Ramsey was never reported missing while her husband’s first wife had died mysteriously.”

State Police reported Tuesday that investigators had located the first wife who is “alive and well in Florida, assisting us with information.”

Ramsey was a resident of Southeast who disappeared without a trace in May 1980.

A week after the remains were discovered, investigators from the New York State Police and Carmel Police Department confirmed the DNA sample collected did not match the profile of missing Robin Murphy.

The 17-year-old teenager’s disappearance in 1995 is one of Putnam County’s biggest mysteries.

Murphy disappeared without a trace on the evening of April 9, 1995 after being last seen at the Shop-Rite Plaza on Route 52 at the Carmel-Kent line.

She was planning to meet her boyfriend, who worked at the nearby Burger King; it never happened. Her mother’s car was found in the parking lot and Robin’s wallet and keys were found a few days later in a grassy area behind the shopping center.

On numerous occasions over the years, police searched – without success –the area of Ice Pond Road – on foot, from the air and with dogs – for clues that may have led to Murphy’s discovery. Police even scoured the Tilly Foster Mine.

Troop K Public Information Officer Trooper A.J. Hicks asked anyone with information to contact the State Police Troop K headquarters at 845-677-7300.

The police spokesman said the “investigation remains ongoing and will be updated as new information becomes available.”
