TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A motorist who failed to pull over for a state trooper in Highland led police on a pursuit south on Route 9W, resulting in a collision and foot pursuit.  The man leading the cops on the chase was taken into custody just before 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

A state trooper attempted to stop a Honda Civic on Route 9W near Chapel Hill Road in the Town of Lloyd at approximately 12:15 p.m. but the driver refused to stop and fled south on 9W with the trooper in pursuit.  Police from the Towns of Newburgh and Marlborough joined in.  The fleeing motorist struck the Marlborough police vehicle and three other vehicles before being boxed in at the intersection of 9W and Chestnut, near the M&T Bank in the Town of Newburgh.

After being stopped, the driver attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended on the Powelton Club Golf Course and taken into custody.

Injuries have been reported at the scene.  The Cronomer Valley and Middle Hope Fire Departments and the Town of Newburgh EMS have responded to treat the victims.
