CARMEL- Carmel Police have been receiving a large amount of complaints in recent days from residents in the greater Carmel, Mahopac and Mahopac Falls area regarding door to door solicitors.

Police Chief Anthony Hoffmann said the solicitations are referred to in the Carmel Town Code as peddlers and “unlawful peddling or peddling without a permit is a violation of our town code and is punishable by a fine of up $1,000 or 15 days in jail.”

The Carmel Town Clerk’s Office is responsible for permits for peddlers and solicitors and as of Friday not only have any permits been issued but Town Clerk Alice Daly reported: “Our office has not received any applications for peddling or soliciting permits.”

Chief Hoffmann said if residents or businesses encounter unwanted solicitors or peddlers, “call Carmel PD at 845-628-1300.”
