MAMAKATING- Longtime Town of Mamakating supervisor Dennis Greenwald, who served in elected office for 20 years, was remembered on Saturday with the dedication of a tree and bench.
Among Greenwald’s greatest accomplishments was bringing the State Police Troop F substation to the town. He was also the driving force behind the establishment of the Mamakating Town Park.
Current supervisor Michael Robbins spoke about Greenwald’s contributions
”When he first got in 1972, he went to the owner of Miller’s Bungalows and asked him if he could put a park on his property. Mr. Miller was very excited about it and ended up donating the property to the town, which is now called, Mamakating Park,” said Robbins.
Sullivan County Legislator, Nick Salomone remembered Greenwald’s push to bring the police substation to town.
“The state police barracks we worked on and I remember Dennis fighting and going to Albany. We were able to get the barracks here,” said Salomone.
Greenwald‘s daughter, Julie, recalled what it was like growing up in the Greenwald household.
”Our Lives all revolved around whether every Sunday, we had a drive to a different part of the town to see if the roads were paved, or who was moving in, and what was needed,” she recalled.
