RAMAPO – Two Ramapo cops were injured after being attacked by an alleged intoxicated man just before 5:00 AM on Friday, June 7, after police responded to Helen Court after multiple reports of a man yelling outside and breaking windows of a house.

Ramapo Police Captain Hyman says his officers responded at 4:52 AM Friday to Helen Court in the Hillcrest section of town and found a 44-year-old man matching the description provided by the callers standing in front of a house that had damage to it.  Police identified the man there as Ovidio Aguilar-Oliva, who was bleeding from a laceration.  Hyman says Aguilar-Oliva the front door had been kicked in and a side window had been smashed to pieces at the residence.

Aguilar-Oliva appeared to be intoxicated and when officers approached, he became combative and fought with the cops, dislocating the shoulder of one officer and causing undisclosed injuries to the second.  The two officers were eventually evaluated and treated at a local hospital.

Aguilar-Oliva, police say, lives at the home and was too intoxicated to unlock the door so he attempted forcible entry, causing other residents and neighbors to call the police.  He was arrested and charged with the felonies of assault and criminal mischief.  He also faces the misdemeanor charges of obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest.

Following his arraignment, he was remanded to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail pending a future court appearance.
