Newburgh City Council launches free public art works program “Arts in the Park!”

NEWBURGH- The Newburgh City Council today announces the creation and launch of its Public Art Works Program, with “Arts in the Park!” – a free, weekly Summer series produced by Chapman Steamer Arts and hosted in Downing Park. The Newburgh City Council provided $5,000 to ensure this arts series is free and open to the public. 

Beginning Saturday, June 8th, free public arts events will be held weekly at various locations throughout Downing Park, with a live musical event by The Trio SuWaSa to kick off the series. “Arts in the Park!” welcomes all ages, experiences, and abilities according to the Newburgh City Council’s goal of art for all. 

The 2024 Arts in the Park! schedule:

  • June 8, 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.:  Live concert by The Trio SuWaSa (Shelter House)
  • June 15, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.:  Plein Air Drawing Workshop (Shelter House Patio)
  • June 15, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.:  African Dance Class with live drummers (North Field)
  • June 20, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.:  Transformational Poetry Workshop (Shelter House Patio)
  • June 22, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.:  Greater Newburgh Symphony Classical String Quartet (Amphitheater)
  • June 22, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.:  African Dance Class with Melody Africa (North Field)
  • June 23, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.:  Colors of Mexico: Mazarte Dance Company (Amphitheatre)
  • June 29, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.:  African Dance Class with Melody Africa (North Field)
  • July 6, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.:  Shapes of the City with artist/designer Chat Travieso (Shelter House)
  • July 6, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.:  African Dance Class with Melody Africa (North Field)
