TOWN OF WAPPINGER – The town continues participating in the nationwide Military Hometown Hero banner program.  The program is a tribute created for the community to recognize veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

On Friday afternoon, the town’s contractor was installing new banners along Route 9D near the Fishkill town line.

The banners will be displayed from April to November, on local utility poles within the town. Banners can be ordered in either single or double-sided format, displayed with the veteran’s name, branch, time of service, and donor. If the veteran paid the ultimate sacrifice, a star will be placed under the hero’s photo. The banner size is 30” by 60”.

The Wappinger Town Veterans Advisory Group (WVA) has been tasked by Town Supervisor Joseph Cavaccini and the town board with administering the banner program and other veteran services.  The advisory group promotes services for veterans, develops projects to honor those who have served, and hosts patriotic events, according to the town.  Kevin Hathorn serves as the President of the WVA and can be reached by email here to learn more about the Hometown Heroes banners and memorial bricks being placed throughout the town.
