Noontime shooting in Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE – A 23-year-old man was shot near the intersection of Main and White Streets in the city on Saturday at approximately 11:44 am, just five blocks away from a parade.  Interim Police Chief Rich Wilson told Mid Hudson News that the gunshots were detected by the Flock gunshot detection system and several people in the area also called City 911 to report shots being fired.

The 2024 Poughkeepsie Pride Parade was set to begin at the intersection of Main and Market Streets at noon.  The parade went as planned, proceeding down Main Street to Waryas Park.

First-arriving officers were unable to locate a victim at the scene but remained to collect evidence in the area.

A short time later a 23-year-old man arrived at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in a private vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound.  Detectives were dispatched to the hospital to interview the victim.
