BEEKMAN- The Beekman Warriors shut out Eastern Soccer Academy Forza, 1-0, to win the Girls-Under-14 State Open Cup championship on June 1 at Stringham Park in LaGrange. The cup’s namesake, Barry Salter, volunteered as President of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) from 2006-10 as well as previously serving in the same role with the Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL). He was inducted into the Halls of Fame of both groups plus was present for the game and awards ceremony.

“Eastern came out strong and kept us off-balance,” Beekman coach Sean Murphy said. “But good teams find a way to win and we did that!”
The coach’s daughter, Ireland Murphy, recorded the shutout in net while Emily Outly scored the only goal of the game.
Beekman will represent Eastern New York at the East Regionals from June 27 to July 3 in Charleston and Barboursville, West Virginia as part of the National Championship Series.
The Eastern Soccer Academy did not go home to Long Island empty-handed as they received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a US Soccer Life Member who died in 2016, started the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) Sportsmanship Program in 1980 and it spread to Eastern New York, nationally and then to China and Ireland.
