POUGHKEEPSIE – State Senator Rob Rolison (NY-39) was honored Thursday by the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse (CPCA) for his advocacy in preventing child abuse.  The “Shining Bright” award was presented to Rolison by CPCA Board Chair Renee Fillette at the annual CPCA gala.  This year’s gala celebrated 50 years of advocacy by the CPCA.

The CPCA also honored Jacqueline Montfort of Montfort Brothers with the inaugural Heart of Gold award for her “unselfish dedication and outpouring generosity to children and their families.”  CJ Tomaskovic of Merrill Lynch, like Rolison, also received the Shining Bright award for fighting to keep children safe.

Throughout his career as a police officer and his second career in public office, Rolison has been an advocate for the safety of children.  He is currently the ranking member of the New York State Senate Children and Families Committee, where, Fillete said, “He can effect real change for children in our community.”

In presenting the honor, Fillette gave an overview of Rolison’s work history and advocacy, and closed her remarks by saying “Tonight, we most especially thank you for being a friend to the children whose names you will never know, whose faces you will never see, but whose lives are made better and safer because of your work.”

“I am delighted and honored to accept this distinguished award,” Rolison said.  “During my years serving the community as a police officer, county legislator, mayor, and state senator, I have consistently prioritized the safety and well-being of children and families. The hardworking and talented CPCA staff continues to safeguard the welfare of our most vulnerable, and as Ranking Member on the Children and Families Committee I am committed to supporting them in this critical mission.”
