SLEEPY HOLLOW – Phelps Hospital workers reached a tentative contract agreement with management at its parent company, Northwell Health, on Thursday, thus averting a planned one-day strike for today (Friday).

The agreement between the hospital and 1199SEIU ended around-the-clock negotiations all week.

The tentative agreement with the 900 registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, housekeeping staff, food service workers, and others includes what the union says are substantial wage increases retroactive to April 2023.

The pact also includes no-cost family health insurance and secure pensions, employer paid childcare and education funds, job security provisions and language ensuring that frontline caregivers will have meaningful input in developing staffing guidelines to ensure the best possible patient care.
