NEWBURGH – Members of the City of Police Department were recognized Wednesday at Kaplan Hall, on the campus of SUNY Orange, during an annual awards ceremony for officers for their bravery and commitment to their jobs.

“To all of those rank and file, all the detectives, the investigators and their families who continue to serve within our community at the utmost of professionalism,” said Mayor Torrance Harvey, addressing the officers, other personnel and their families.

“We understand the sacrifice that you make and what your families make every day to keep our community and our city safe,” he said. “Furthermore, I would like to recognize those among you who have distinguished yourselves in your heroic deeds and your exceptional effort. Your bravery and your commitment to serve with honor and integrity inspire us all.”

Officers and other department personnel were commended for their continued service, distinguished service, excellent police duty and meritorious service.

Unit citations were also awarded to members in specialized units for intelligent acts that contribute to a valuable accomplishment. And bronze stars were also awarded to officers who put themselves into personal danger.
