LOCH SHELDRAKE- In an effort to optimize resources and improve the quality of education, the Board of Trustees at SUNY Sullivan voted to deactivate five under-enrolled academic programs.  Following the deactivation, no new students will be enrolled in these programs.

“Deactivation of programs was due to low enrollment,” said Interim Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs Rose Hanofee.  “Students currently enrolled will have an opportunity to complete their degrees.  Individual courses in these disciplines can still run where there’s interest.”

The programs selected for deactivation are the Media Arts AS; Theater AA; Environmental Science AS; Liberal Arts & Sciences, AS – Biology Concentration; and Liberal Arts & Sciences, AS – Mathematics Concentration.  They were identified initially through a five year data review looking at enrollment, completion, and program costs.  This initiative is part of a broader strategic plan to enhance the college’s academic portfolio and ensure long term viability.

According to college officials, resources will be reallocated to more in-demand areas of study with higher enrollment and strong employment prospects, including fields such as healthcare and business.
