BREWSTER- A Connecticut woman is facing felony charges of grand larceny and falsifying business records for allegedly stealing over $97,000 from her former employer in Brewster.

Sheriff Kevin McConville Friday reported the arrest of Marlenin Vito, 45 of Waterbury in connection with the scheme.

According to McConville, last month members of the Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation were notified by an unidentified business owner who suspected that the bookkeeper/office manager hired in January was taking funds from the company’s payroll and operating accounts:  “An investigation was begun and members of the BCI analyzed numerous financial documents and conducted interviews of the company owner and manager about the bookkeeping discrepancies,” said the sheriff.

When Vito was contacted she surrendered herself and was arraigned in Southeast Court before being released without bail pending future court action in Brewster.

The top charge is a Class D felony punishable upon conviction by a maximum seven year prison term in a state penitentiary.
