Prison sentence in Newburgh shooting case

GOSHEN -A 34-year-old Newburgh man was sentenced in Orange County Court to eight years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision in connection with his previous guilty plea to criminal possession of a weapon.

It is alleged that Raul Paz was waiting for a man as he returned to his City of Newburgh residence on May 14, 2023 and as the man entered his home, Paz pulled out a gun and fired at the man missing him.

The incident was captured on surveillance video.

When Paz was apprehended by police, he identified himself in still photos from the video and admitted to the shooting.

At the plea proceedings, Paz admitted to illegally possessing a loaded firearm.
