POUGHKEEPSIE – Thomas Steeves, MD, has joined the Nuvance Health Neuroscience Institute as the director of movement disorders.
Dr. Steeves is a board-certified neurologist with three years of fellowship training in movement disorders. He also had dedicated training in deep-brain stimulation for movement disorders and electrophysiology for neuromuscular disorders.
Dr. Steeves offers the latest options to help people manage symptoms from neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease, as well as chorea (involuntary muscle movement), dystonia (involuntary muscle contractions), tics and tremors.
In addition to thorough physical exams, Dr. Steeves uses ultrasound-guided and electromyographic botulinum toxin injections to treat dystonia and tremors. Dystonia and tremor can cause unwanted postures and shaking in an area of the body, such as the neck or arms and hands, which can make basic daily activities difficult, including eating, drinking and driving.

Dr. Steeves completed fellowship training in movement disorders at Toronto Western Hospital. He completed both neurology and internal medicine residencies at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Steeves relocated from Canada to care for people in the Hudson Valley. He sees patients at the Nuvance Health Neuroscience Institute in Poughkeepsie.
