MONTICELLO- May is Mental Health Awareness month.  NAMI Sullivan County, the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will be holding a Candlelight Vigil for Mental Health to shine a light on mental illness and mental health awareness on Monday, May 20, 2025, at 7 p.m. on the Sullivan County Courthouse Lawn in Monticello.  All are welcome – family members, peers, providers, community leaders, faith based groups and interested community members.

Mental Illnesses are neurobiological brain disorders, as real as other physical illnesses like diabetes or heart disease – the brain, an organ of the body like the heart, is susceptible to illness and also responds well to treatment.  Mental illness is a flaw in chemistry, not character.  NAMI Sullivan is primarily a family support and advocacy organization providing free, confidential support groups, education, advocacy, referral to clinical services and other resources.

If you or someone you love has been touched by mental illness, you are not alone.  For information, visit NAMI Sullivan online @namisullivan.org or by phone at 845-794-1029
