Carmel Police awarded $162,000 federal grant

CARMEL – The Town of Carmel Police Department has received two federal grants totaling over $162,000 from the US Justice Department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS).

The grants were awarded for officer wellness and mental health and supporting agency accreditation.

The Carmel department was the only law enforcement agency in New York State to receive either grant.

One grant, amounting to $49,656, will be used to implement programs geared toward improving the physical and mental well-being of officers.

The second grant, totaling $113,175, is dedicated to supporting law enforcement agencies seeking accreditation.

Carmel Police have been preparing to gain agency accreditation through the State Division of Criminal Justice Services.
