SOUTHEAST – One person was pronounced dead following a head-on collision between a sedan traveling the wrong way on I-84 and a tractor-trailer traveling east on the same interstate in the Town of Southeast. The accident shut down the eastbound section of I-84 near the junction with I-684 Sunday morning just after 4 a.m.
New York State troopers were advised by their counterparts from Connecticut of a sedan traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-84 in Connecticut, nearing the New York border.
New York State troopers searching for the vehicle came upon an accident involving the car and tractor-trailer, with the car on fire, minutes later.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit shut down the highway for a period of time as they investigated the fatal wreck.
