GOSHEN – A Poughkeepsie man has been sentenced in Orange County Court to a term of 13 years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision in connection with his previous guilty pleas to burglary and attempted burglary.

It was alleged that on August 4, 2023, at about 11 p.m., Emmanuel Gates, 25, was observed on surveillance video entering into the attached garage of a home in the Town of New Windsor. He stole the victim’s vehicle, which was found days later in the City of Newburgh.

When he was taken into custody later, he was found in possession of the vehicle keys.

It was also alleged that on August 13, 2023 at about 10:15 pm., one of Gates’ co-defendants knocked at the door of a residence in the Citty of Newburgh. Once the victim opened the door, the co-defendant signaled to Gates and two other accomplices to enter.

Once inside, the four took property from the victim while two were armed with knives. During the altercation, Gates slashed the victim’s face with a knife.
