Putnam man arrested on Orange County sexual assault charges

MIDDLETOWN – A 46-year-old Mahopac man has been arrested by State Police on sexual assault charges following a five-week undercover operation.

Ravi Masand was booked on charges of attempted rape, attempted criminal sex act and attempted endangering the welfare of a child.

It is alleged that Masand drove from his Putnam County home to Middletown with the intention to meet a 10-year-old girl to engage in various sex acts. He allegedly planned to produce, sell and distribute sex videos and images of the child.

With the assistance of the Brewster Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Computer Crimes Unit, a search warrant was executed at his residence in the Town of Carmel.

Masand was arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of bail.
