TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A motorist who State Police were attempting to stop early Saturday morning in the Town of Newburgh lost control of the vehicle and plowed through the wall of a residence on Woodlawn Terrace in the Goodwill Fire Department area.

The car wound up inside the home around 2:15 a.m.

The fire chief said three people were sleeping in the home – a father and his two teenage daughters.

The Nissan Murano just missed their bedroom, careening through the one-story home and slamming into a back wall, officials said.

Firefighters checked the residence and requested the town building department to the scene.

The area was blocked off while the fire department checked for a possible gas leak.

The male driver was taken away in handcuffs.

No one in the home was injured, officials said. The Red Cross was called in to provide temporary housing for the family.

Newburgh Town Police assisted troopers at the scene.
