ROSCOE – The first cast is an annual trout fishing event that occurs at Junction Pool in Roscoe and early Monday morning quite a few people came to try to catch the “big one” at the famous fishing hole. Flycasters of all ages were there to enjoy the beauty at the confluence of the Beaverkill River and Willowemoc Creek.

Robbie Shaw of Highland was there with his dad Robert Shaw to try their luck. Robbie Shaw was happy to be there and said.

“I love it. This is probably my favorite fishing spot in New York. I’ve been coming here for about three years and it was a really good time even though it started off cold because the water is super cold. The trout were jumping all around.”

His dad Robert Shaw said fishing is a family thing.

“My son. Robbie loves it but it became more of a nuisance and hassle for me snaring lines and everything else. But he’s enjoying it and it’s become a family tradition for us now for nearly a decade or more later. It’s a good family time for us.”

Junction Pool is open to the public but a fishing license is required.
