KINGSTON – A 43-year-old Kingston man pled guilty in Ulster County Court to criminal sale of a controlled substance following a long-term investigation conducted by the Special Investigation Unit, a collaboration of the City of Kingston and Town of Ulster police departments.

Matthew Felton pled guilty on March 21; his plea was announced by the district attorney’s office on March 26.

He was arrested following execution of a search warrant on his apartment at 83 Green Street in Kingston on January 18 that resulted in the discovery of cocaine, fentanyl and xylazine along with digital scales and other paraphernalia.

Xylazine has been declared an emerging threat by the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji said xylazine is a horse tranquilizer, not intended for humans, and does not take much to kill.

“Fentanyl is widely known to be deadly,” he said. “Anyone selling either one or combination of them is flirting with prosecution for resulting death in addition to such sales.”
