ALBANY- New York State has announced that a second Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) benefit is available beginning Thursday.  The program provides eligible participants with financial support paying for heat or a heat-related emergency.

Eligible residents must be either shut off or scheduled for shut off for electrical or natural gas utility service or be out of fuel.  Residents who have less than one-quarter tank of fuel oil, kerosene, or propane or have less than a 10-day supply of wood or wood pellets also qualify.

Participants must also meet a financial need requirement as outlined by the office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.

Household eligibility requirements include filing an application with the local county department of social services.
