The accreditation process, which began in April 2022, entailed a comprehensive audit of the department and involved the implementation of a new policies to improve operational effectiveness.  As part of the review, 150 interviews and 49 independent observations were conducted to verify compliance with over 100 accreditation standards.

“This significant achievement will benefit our community because it is now served by a police department that has been formally recognized as an agency that provides professional police service under accredited policies,” said Town of Wallkill Police Chief Robert Hertman.
