Liberty woman arrested for making threat against school

LIBERTY – A Liberty woman has been arrested and charged with making a verbal threat against the Liberty Middle School.

Village police said Chiffvon Steele, 42, was engaged in a heated conversation with a staff member at the school at about 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, February 22 and said she would “blow this [expletive] place up.”

Steele was located by police about an hour-and-a-half later and charged with making a threat of mass harm.

She was arraigned and released pending a further court appearance.

Village Police Chief Steven D’Agata said his department investigates all threats against schools “with the highest level of urgency and thoroughness.”

He said while in this case, Steele did not possess the intent or capacity to commit the threatened conduct, “her statement was nevertheless unlawful and disruptive to the school community.”
