MONTICELLO – The Village of Monticello has a new police chief.

In a split vote Wednesday, the board of trustees named Jason Corley provisional chief.

Corley, who is a retired village police officer, agreed to return to serve after being approached by Mayor George Nikolados.

Recently Chief Robert Mir abruptly resigned with the mayor saying he retired.

Lt. Mark Johnstone was named acting chief days later.
