COLUMBIA & GREENE COUNTIES- Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia & Greene Counties will be hosting two events on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the Agroforestry Resource Center, 6055 Route 23, Acra, NY.

Maple Fest:  Celebrating the Wonderful World of Maple

Join us for Maple Fest from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to experience the sweet world of maple sugaring at Cornell Cooperative Extension’s (CCE) Agroforestry Resource Center located at 6055 Route 23 in Acra, New York.  Maple Fest is free of charge and registration is not required.  Activities will take place both indoor and outdoor so dress appropriately.  The Maple Fest will feature:

  • Phoenicia Diner Sponsored Hot pancake breakfast:  As a fundraiser for CCE, 4-H volunteers will be serving bacon, sausage and the Phoenicia Diner’s Signature Buttermilk Pancake Mix.  $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 10.  Pancakes will be served from 10 AM for as long as supplies last.
  • Tapping and Boiling Demonstrations:  Gain insights into the art of maple production through live demonstrations.
  • Maple Sap Sampling Straight from the Tree:  Immerse your taste buds in pure maple sap.
  • Local Maple Syrup Producers:  Support local and buy maple goods from maple vendors and the Taste NY Market.
  • Connections with Forestry Enthusiasts and Professionals:  Engage with local forestry organizations and broaden your understanding of sustainable practices.
  • Crafting with 4-H:  Children can join our 4-H clubs for maple inspired craft-making.
  • Winter Walk:  Join CCE’s Natural Resources staff at 1 p.m. to embark on a winter woodland walk through the Siuslaw Model Forest.

Enhance Your Maple Fest Experience With a Class by Local Experts

If you would like to further enhance your Maple Fest experience, you can register for a class on Sugar Mapling led by local experts.  From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., this outdoor educational program will be presented by CCE staff and Wild Hudson Valley.  During this Maple Sugaring program, participants will explore maple from historical practice to current ones.  Advance registration and payment of $20 is required by March 1st.
