GOSHEN – The sister and brother-in-law of Megan McDonald, the Town of Wallkill woman murdered over 20 years ago, are calling for an investigation of Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler, who prior to being elected DA, was a defense attorney who represented a client, now deceased, who may have been involved in McDonald’s murder.

Edward Holley, 42, this past week was charged following a State Police investigation with killing the young woman in the Town of Wallkill.

Megan’s sister, Karen Whalen, and her husband, James, on Friday said they want the truth to come out concerning the DA and what they said are his conflicting accounts, first as a defense attorney and later, when elected as DA.

“There are shifting stories, conflicting accounts and what is clear to us is that the truth is not out there. So, we are calling on the FBI to investigate David Hoovler and the actions within that office and we will let the chips fall where they may,” Whalen said.

The family members said the State Attorney General’s Office may also want to look into the matter.

The New York City Detectives Endowment Association is urging the same investigation as Karen and Megan’s late father was a New York City police officer.

Karen and James Whalen also have questioned why Hoovler summoned them to his office five days after Holley was arrested a first time in April 2023, and surrounded by seven of his colleagues in the DA’s office discussed the case with differing accounts.

Last week Hoovler had scheduled an interview about the case with Mid-Hudson News but cancelled it at the last moment.
