Lake Katrine man charged with assaulting elderly woman; stealing her car

WAWARSING – State Police have arrested a 37-year-old Lake Katrine man for allegedly attacking an 84-year-old woman and stealing her car.

Police said late Tuesday afternoon, Shirley Clayton was pumping gas at a Mobile station on Route 209 in the Town of Wawarsing when Christopher Doulin of Lake Katrine shoved her to the ground and got into her 2004 Toyota Corolla.

As he was going through her purse, a patron at the gas station came to her aid and attempted to remove Doulin from the car, but he sped away south on Route 209.

Troopers spotted the car and attempted to stop it but Doulin crashed, abandoned it and fled on foot.

He was located by troopers a short distance away and immediately arrested.

Police determined he was impaired by drugs and in possession of a small amount of cocaine.

He was also wanted on a bench warrant.

Doulin was charged with robbery as a hate crime, driving while ability impaired, criminal possession of drugs, bail jumping and criminal mischief.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
