MIDDLETOWN – In the months ahead, the Middletown City Police Department will be growing by six new officers.

Chief John Ewanciw told the common council Tuesday night that the ranks will increase to 73 later this year.

“We recently had four police officers graduate from the police academy. They will be joining our ranks; they will be working through the field training program which will be another five or six months before they actually get placed on the road by themselves” he said. “We hired two additional officers that will be starting with us at the end of this month. I will be looking to work with the police commission to fill some other vacancies that we have.”
The Middletown Police Department is budgeted for 75 sworn officers.
