HYDE PARK – A house on Humble Way in Hyde Park sustained fire, smoke, and water damage as a result of a fire on Sunday night.  The fire, reported just before 9 p.m. caused damage to the home but quick actions of Hyde Park police officers and firefighters from the Roosevelt Fire Department saved a pet dog belonging to the family.

Hyde Park Police Sergeant Stallone and another officer arrived at the reported structure fire before firefighters and were told that the family dog was in the house.  The sergeant said both he and another officer attempted to make entry through the front door but were pushed back by heavy smoke.  Firefighters arrived moments later and were able to save the dog that spent several minutes in the back of a police SUV being comforted by police before jumping out of the truck upon seeing the other family canine and their owner.  The two dogs briefly frolicked around the expansive front yard with the rescued pet showing no ill effects of the earlier smoke and fire exposure.

Firefighters worked to contain the fire to the first floor of the structure, according to Roosevelt Fire Chief Jeff Scala.

The Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.

No injuries to first responders or civilians were reported at the scene.
