NEWBURGH – What began as a stolen vehicle chase in the Brewster area late Wednesday afternoon ended with the arrest of a suspect in the City of Newburgh.

State police attempted to stop the stolen vehicle on Interstate 84 just after 5 p.m. but the driver chose to race away, traveling west on the highway.  Troopers attempted the traffic stop near the Ludingtonville Road exit but the driver kept traveling westbound over the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge onto Route 9W south and into the City of Newburgh.

The vehicle was stopped at the intersection of Van Ness Street and Carpenter Avenue with the operator attempting to flee on foot.  He was apprehended moments later and taken into custody.
