NEWBURGH – State police attempted to stop a suspected stolen vehicle on I-84 Wednesday just after 5:00 pm and the operator chose to race away, traveling west on the interstate.  Troopers attempted the traffic stop on I-84 westbound near the Ludingtonville Road exit and the pursuit ended with the operator in police custody in the City of Newburgh.

The troopers had initially tried to stop the vehicle because it had been reported stolen from the Brewster area.

The state police were assisted by several agencies including police from Fishkill and the City of Newburgh.  As the chase went through Newburgh, state police officials ordered the pursuit to be terminated.  At the same time, the vehicle was stopped at the intersection of Van Ness Street and Carpenter Avenue with the operator attempting to flee on foot.  He was apprehended moments later and taken into custody.
