WHITE PLAINS – A 37-year-old Monticello man has been sentenced to 200 months in federal prison for distributing heroin and fentanyl that resulted in the death of a woman from Cochecton.

According to court filings and statements, Steven Jones, 37, sold fentanyl-laced heroin stamped “Dorney Park,” to Jamie Elliott, 26, on June 1, 2018, the mother of one Jones’ children.

Elliott was found dead in her bedroom the following morning and an autopsy revealed she had died from a legal dose of fentanyl. State Police recovered additional bags of “Dorney Park” fentanyl-laced heroin in her clothing.

Facebook Messenger messages reflected that Elliott had purchased narcotics from Jones the evening before her death. The day her death was discovered, Jones deactivated his Facebook account, but he continued to sell drugs.

Shortly before his September 2, 2018 arrest Jones obtained 500 more glassine envelopes of heroin for sale.

In addition to his more than 16- year prison sentence, he was sentenced to three years of supervised release.
