NEW YORK- A local division of the state’s appellate court has announced that it is creating a task force to study the interplay of artificial intelligence and the courts.

The Appellate Division, Second Department’s task force will meet with experts in the field of artificial intelligence and propose recommendations on how the courts within its jurisdiction may best utilize reliable artificial intelligence technologies to better serve their courts and communities while identifying and avoiding the risks and dangers that these same technologies may present.

“The legal profession is not immune to the rapid evolution that is taking place in the field of artificial intelligence.  As artificial intelligence technology rapidly advances, it is imperative for the courts to be prepared.  I am delighted that these well-respected and esteemed professionals have agreed to take part in this important Task Force.  I am certain that their analysis and report will be instrumental in assisting the courts of the Second Department to prepare for the changes and challenges that artificial intelligence will bring to the legal profession,” said Presiding Justice Hector LaSalle.
