MID-HUDSON – The weekend snowstorm that dumped a foot of snow in some areas of the Hudson Valley melted with heavy rain on Tuesday night, leading to significant flooding throughout the region.  The moisture-rich snow was melted and washed away with the two to four inches of rain that fell on Tuesday into Wednesday, further aided by warming air temperatures.

Several roads were closed on Wednesday morning, including Route 6 in Orange County due to flooding.

In Poughkeepsie, the rain-swollen Hudson crested its banks at high tide at 11:20 a.m.  The river, which was rising due to raging creeks and waterways to the north,, spilled over and flooded Poughkeepsie’s Waryas Park, on the river’s edge.

Several park benches and tables at the park were unreachable due to the flooding and the former Ice House restaurant was surrounded by water on three sides.  The patio at the Ice House was under a foot of water at high tide.

The skate park on the north side of the park was partially underwater and a small pond was created in the field next to the skating area.  Driftwood was found along the waterfront promenade once the river receded.
