CARMEL – The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Town of Southeast physician for a series of sexual assault incidents that took place in the last month.
On December 29, sheriff’s investigators were alerted to the allegation that a female victim, who was known to the suspect, identified as Paul Giacopelli, 59, had been given anesthesia without her knowledge and was sexually assaulted.
The following day investigators interviewed and arrested Giacopelli for four counts of sexual abuse and assault, both as felonies.
He was arraigned and remanded to the Putnam County Jail on $150,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond.
Giacopelli was employed by Northwell Health with privileges at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel.
