EAST FISHKILL – Police Lieutenant Derrick Cuccia, serving as the East Fishkill Acting Police Chief has issued a statement of thanks following the funeral for Sergeant Daniel DiDato who was killed in the line of duty. DiDato was a 19-year veteran of the department.

“During our darkest time, our community, law enforcement brotherhood, and local fire departments banded together and shined the light to guide our grieving members through the most challenging loss our agency has suffered,” Cuccia said. “To see so many flag-waving members of our community lining the streets and saluting the funeral procession a show of support reminds us how privileged we are to serve and that Sgt. Daniel DiDato did not die in vain. For 19 years, Sgt. DiDato proudly and faithfully served this community without hesitation, and in return, our community came out to ensure his service was honored.”

Acting Police Chief Cuccia noted that both DiDato’s personal and work families were thankful for the support of the East Fishkill community, police departments from across the region and beyond, and the fire departments that stood along the route of DiDato’s funeral procession to pay their respects.

“The love and support the countless law enforcement agencies and PBAs have shown to our community has been an emotional lift to our members and to the friends and family of Sgt. DiDato,” Cuccia penned, adding, “Thank you to the East Fishkill and surrounding fire departments for the spectacular flag displays along the funeral procession route.”

Noting that there were too many assisting agencies to list in the letter of thanks, Cuccia did mention the following “that responded in our hour of need.”
