POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Medical Examiner is working to identify the woman who was recovered from the Hudson River on Christmas Eve.  The woman’s lifeless body was recovered from the Hudson River by members of the Poughkeepsie Fire Department at approximately 2:30 p.m. on December 24.

The city’s 911 dispatch center received a call from the Walkway Over the Hudson on Sunday at approximately 2:10 p.m. and told that the park’s surveillance cameras recorded what appeared to be a body floating south toward the Mid-Hudson Bridge.

The firefighters retrieved the body and brought it to the boat launch at Waryas Park where she was pronounced dead.  A member of the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office responded, retrieved the body and took it back to the facility for examination.

City of Poughkeepsie Detective Lieutenant Matt Clark said the medical examiner has tentatively identified the body but a definitive ID will likely be made using dental records.

“At this time, the City of Poughkeepsie Police have no evidence that homicide was the manner of death in this case, however the final determination on a manner of death and the cause of death will be made by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office,” Clark said.

The recovered body was observed as being a white woman, who appeared to be in her 20s, with blondish hair.  The body was dressed in winter clothing and did not appear to have been in the water for an extended period of time.
