Poughkeepsie City Police wait for firefighters to return to shore with body

POUGHKEEPSIE – The body of a woman was recovered from the Hudson River on Sunday.  City of Poughkeepsie Police and firefighters responded to Waryas Park at approximately 2:10 p.m. on December 24, 2023, after City 911 received a report from the Walkway Over the Hudson of a possible body in the water.

Firefighters responded and launched the new rigid-hull boat “Marine 2” with two firefighters on board to investigate further.  They encountered a debris field just south of the former Ice House restaurant and then discovered the lifeless body of a young woman floating on the surface of the river.

The woman’s body was recovered and returned to the boat ramp where she was pronounced dead by a medic from Empress.

A police detective responded to the scene to investigate and a member of the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office took possession of the body at 3:20 p.m.

Anyone with information regarding a missing white woman, possibly in her 20s, with blondish hair is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police confidential TIP LINE at 845-451-7577.
