ALBANY – The State Department of Environmental Conservation has announced grants for urban forest assessment and planning projects to provide urban forest managers with a baseline understanding of urban forest conditions and support strategies to assess community forest needs and the equitable distribution of forest benefits.
The City of Newburgh will receive $71,250 for a tree inventory and management plan update.
The City of Peekskill will receive $75,000 for a tree inventory and management plan.
The Village of Hastings-on-Hudson will receive $21,525 for a tree inventory.
The City of New Rochelle will receive $100,000 for a tree inventory and management plan.
The Village of Rye Brook will receive $50,000 for a tree inventory.
“Health urban and community forests provide a host of environmental, economic, and social benefits by reducing air pollution, enhancing wildlife habitat, protecting watersheds, mitigating flooding, increasing property values, and improving public health,” said DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos.
